Pet Wellness Exam

Pet Wellness Care From Our Cambridge Veterinarians

At Preston Animal Clinic, our Cambridge veterinarians take great pride in the quality, compassionate care they provide to pets in the surrounding communities. With a longstanding reputation dating back to 1967, we provide a full range of pet wellness services for all kinds of pets. From routine wellness exams and vaccinations to dental exams, parasite prevention, and everything in between—we’re here for your pet at all stages of life.

The Importance of Regular Pet Exams

We recommend annual wellness exams for most pets that are in overall good health. For older/senior pets or pets with known medical conditions, we may instead recommend more frequent check-ups (such as twice annually).

There are many reasons as to why regular pet exams are so important. For starters, these exams allow us to stay on top of even the smallest of changes in your pet’s health that you might not otherwise notice. These small changes can serve as “red flags” for underlying illnesses and medical conditions. And of course, the sooner our veterinary team is able to diagnose a medical condition, the better our chances for being able to successfully treat it.

Your pet’s annual exams also provide you with a valuable opportunity as a pet owner to bring up any questions or concerns you may have about your pet’s health. Maybe you’re wondering about your pet’s weight, or perhaps you’re concerned about a recent change in your pet’s behavior. Either way, our veterinarian would be happy to sit down with you to address these concerns and answer your questions.

Depending on your pet’s age and risk factors, a wellness exam can also be used to screen for certain diseases and illnesses. For example, since older pets are more prone to diabetes, we may recommend a blood draw and lab work as part of your pet’s exam diagnostics.

And of course, if your pet’s wellness exam goes great and your pet appears to be in good health, the extra peace of mind provided by this exam is a wonderful thing.

Other Preventative Wellness Services

In addition to our routine wellness exams, there are some other preventative services we recommend for pets of all ages and provide in our office. For instance, if your pet isn’t yet spayed or neutered, this is a procedure we generally recommend for pets to prevent unwanted litters and protect their reproductive health.

If your pet isn’t on a flea and tick preventative, this is also something we can help you with in our office. Fleas and ticks can carry diseases, but our veterinary team can help make a recommendation on a flea and tick prevention medication to suit your needs.
